15 August 2005
Father Peter Anthony, the Assistant Parish priest of St. Francis
Church was the guest of honour at the Independence Day function this
year. The highlights of the day were the hoisting of the national
flag which was followed by a short programme. The passionate
performances of the girls of class X were so natural that the
Britishers would have surely left India for good after viewing the
nationalistic spirit in the girls.
The speech by Father Peter Anthony was enlightening and the
patriotic song which he sang so fervently left the students clapping
and cheering.

Teacher's Day
"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence
stops." These lines by Henry Adams highlight the influential
personality of a teacher who not only imparts us with valuable
knowledge but also moulds us with patience, guidance and support
into confident human beings.
On 5th September the Teachers' Day celebrations commenced with a
special prayer service prepared by the Student's Council for
Photograph our dear teachers. The prayer service was followed by a
series of items prepared by each class for this special occasion. "Masti,
Mazaa, Dhoom - you name it, we had it.
"The Aishwaryas, Sushmitas,
Abhisheks and Johns of CJM, if in Bollywood would have certainly
given the stars a run for their money. "The Acrobats of CJM" were
loved the most by students and teachers alike. The grand finale was
the fashion show by class XII which was no less than the LIFW.
The program turned out to be a mesmerizing one for the whole CJM
family.

Basketball Tournament
CJM celebrates the essence of sports
The Jesus and Mary schools in Dehradun district held a Friendly
Basketball Series. The participating schools were St. Agnes D'Dun,
Waverly Convent Mussoorie, & CJM DDun. This was conducted in order
to promote stronger relations among the CJM schools.
The first match was played between St.Agnes & Waverly Convent where
Waverly Convent showed their mettle by beating St. Agnes. The Second
match was between St. Agnes & CJM where CJM won.
The final match of the event was on 13 September between Waverly
Convent & CJM. The CJM DehraDun team was captained by Umang Bhatt of
class X who has led Uttaranchal State Girls' Basketball team as
Captain at the 22nd Youth National Basketball Championship at
Jaisalmer in July - Aug. The teams received a huge round of applause
as the match commenced. The weather seemed unpleasant but did not
deter the girls. The match was so engrossing & nail - biting that
the result was unpredictable in this closely contested match.
Fervent chants in support of both the teams kept doing the rounds.
The spectators (the whole CJM D'Dun) came with banners to support
their choice of teams and CJM D'Dun were the ultimate victors. Both
the teams received certificates from Sr. Janet. The event - first of
its kind at CJM D'Dun will hold a special place in our hearts
forever as it is a part of the memory of our Jesus and Mary family.
We look forward to more events like this one. In future the school
would like to conduct such JM competitions in the form of quizzes,
skits & many more activities. |

Sports Day
The 105th Annual Sports Meet of C.J.M. Dehradun held on 22 October
left everyone in awe, for the tedious preparations had borne fruit.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Brother Carrol, the Principal of
St. Joseph's Academy Dehradun.
The day started with the spectacular match past. As the squads
marched to the tune of the band played by the first group of Gurkha
rifles , their enthusiasm and team-work appealing.

Children's Day
When it comes to throwing surprises our school C.J.M. comes first
and its biggest example is - this year's childrens' day celebration.
The much awaited "d-day" started with a beautiful prayer service
presented by our lovely teachers and some melodious songs sung in
the most tinkling tunes. And then there was an amazing group dance
by the teachers. The PHOTOGRAPH cheering was not yet over when Ma'm
Sameena stepped on the stage and actually put it on fire with her
amazing dance number. The mind blowing dance seemed far better than
Aishwarya Rai's. Mr. Manmohann Aggarwal sang some beautiful songs,
recreating the magic of
60's and 70's making us realise what a "great artist" a teacher can
prove to be.
The immense clapping by the CJMites was the proof.
Later the raffle draw was announced and a few lucky CJMites won
prices including a "washing machine and a bicycle"! The news that
C.J.M. was having a mini-fete on the school campus, was a "complete
blast in its true sense" !!. In no time the CJMites
were scattered in the open spending their coupons on their tummies
and even trying their luck at the "Candle Game" and photograph
"Lucky Dip". CJMites consider no celebration complete without
rocking the dance floor and soon all the "dancing divas" were on the
ground. The songs were being played through the "Request Corner"
arranged by Class X, where most of the songs were being requested by
the tiny tots of Class VI for their "favorite didis".
After some great numbers a sense of complete enjoyment pervaded our
minds.
Though there is no limit to the love our school and our teachers
have for us, the celebrations always have some time limit.
Truly the fun and excitement of watching your own teachers dancing,
singing and cracking jokes in front of you is "something different"
and it cannot be forgotten at any cost.

Christmas Day Celebrations
Christmas
was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm on 21st December 2005.
It was the last day of the winter session, before we broke up for
the vacations. Everybody seemed in high spirits, wearing colourful
apparel, and looked happy. A well conducted special morning assembly
was put up by the students of class VIII. The highlights of the
assembly was a splendid short play with a contemporary script on
inculcating the feeling of sharing and caring for others. Beautiful
dances renewed the joy and happiness Christmas brings with itself.
The Choir with its sweet voices filled the air with melodies of the Christmas Carols. Prayers, asking God for
His blessings and to bring back "Peace" to earth, were offered.
The day was also enjoyed by the natives of Nakronda village and KPMV
students (Both are adopted by C.J.M.). CJM truly lived upto the
spirit of Christmas.

and enthusiasm. The function was organised and conducted by the IX
standard. Our Chief Guest for the day was our Superior and Manager,
Sr. Anita Mathew. The function commenced with the unfurling of the
national flag followed by the National Anthem. Then followed the
prayer service when the entire school prayed for the prosperity and
progress of India. With all the youths of the country going wild
with rebellious spirit, the dance performance on the song ' Rang De
Basanti' did not come as a surprise to any of us. Even the choir
sang some song with patriotic fervor infused in them. the girls also
presented a skit which highlighted the importance of the Republic
day and was appreciated by the audience immensely.
With Sr. Anita's vigorous speech, the program came to an end. The IX

Mother Foundress' Day
On 2nd Febuary, the entire school celebrated its Foundress' day. It
was on this
day that St. Claudine Thevenet founded the congregation of Jesus and
Mary to
spread education and the spirit of compassion. The day which is also celebrated as the feast day of the St.
Claudine House was
organised efficiently by the House girls.
The program started with the lighting of the candle which was
followed by a
prayer service. The life history of St. Claudine Thevenet was read
out as well as
enacted Brilliantly on stage.
The Claudine House mesmerised the gathering by their beautiful house
song.
Two prayer songs were performed which praised our Mother Foundress
and her ideals.

reminded us of the principals of a Jesus and Mary School.

A Celestial and Charismatic
Farewell to class XII!
Tears, nostalgia, sad goodbyes - No, this year none of it happened.
Class XI was adamant on bidding adieu to class XII with smiles
instead of tears and happy hearts instead of lumps in the throats.
The theme of the evening was' Celestial Charisma' and indeed it was
as attractive as heaven! The decorations were awesome - almost
perfect. The pretty fairies of both classes XI and XII and not to
forget the gorgeous teachers lent a truly mesmerising appeal to the
whole party.
The function started with the catwalk which was accompanied by loud
cheering. Then the dancing queen - Miss TwinkleToes' was a hard
title to decide but finally a right judgement was made. The
finalists for the 'Miss CJM' title were soon on stage, racking their
brains to answer the questions and curbing their nervousness and
anxiety. The winners were felicitated with crowns, bouquets and
gifts. The sponsor of the gifts 'Options' also gave the winners
coupons for career guidance courses.
Later the whole gathering proceeded to the dinner room where the
cake was cut and goodies were enjoyed by all. The truly
scintillating evening came to an end with tears
of happiness in the eyes of the passing out class. Class XI was
appreciated for organizing an unforgettable evening.
