Adieu...

Life is an alteration of meetings and partings. When those whom we love bid us goodbye a bit of ourselves goes away. Greater the love, more intense the pain. Closer the union, more severe the sense of loss.

On 11th May, 2007, three of our dear teachers, Ms Cutler, Ms Kongsain and Ms Kiran Sharma, who have been teaching for more than thirty years in CJM bid us farewell. Our hearts ached as our dear teachers who stood by us through thick and thin, held our hands when we risked stumblings. Those whom we loved so much, were there to give their last words to us. There are few words that CJM wishes to dedicate to our dear teachers. Ma'am Cutler 'You have achieved success, because you lived well, laughed often and loved much….
Ma'am Kongsain, 'you have your niche and accomplished your task. You have made the world, better than you found it.
Ma'am Kiran Sharma you have never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty. 'You have always looked for the best in others and given the best you had...' As vicissitudes of life have separated us from our dear teachers, we will never say 'BYE' because bye is a little word that causes a lot of pain, so we won't say bye but 'Hope to meet you again'.

Inter-School Extempore Debate

'Disagreement', the word sounds negative. Family, social and political agreement is necessary for progress and smooth functioning of society. Communal riots, woes take place in various countries majorly because of disagreement. Yet a successful company cannot survive in the long run without disagreement . It has broken unity but also presents the other side of the issue under discussion.

Considering all these points an 'Inter School Extempore Debate' was held at CJM on 31st July, 2007 where various schools from Dehradun including St. Joseph's Academy, The Doon School, Carman School, RIMC, Riverdale High School, Cambrian Hall, The Heritage School and the host School participated.

"Disagreement is necessary to Progress". Participants came out with various opinions for and against the topic. Everybody came out with such powerful opinions that the spectators were totally captivated by the intelligence, knowledge and skills of the debtors. They were judged on the basis of content, delivery of points and rebuttal. RIMC bagged the trophy for the Best Team followed by The Doon School who were runners up. Abindu Dhar of RIMC was declared as the Best Speaker in the verbal battle. Pallavi Arora, representing SJA was awarded the Best Rebuttal. Mrs Ushpinderjit was incharge of the activity and organized it well. The participants were given certificates Courtesy Options Study Centre. We would like to thank them for their support in making this competition a success.

Independence Day Celebrations

The School celebrated sixty years of Independence on 15th August, 2007. Celebrations began with the flag hoisting ceremony by the chief guest, Father Bernard Daniel. This was followed by lighting of the lamp by the chief guest and a prayer service dedicated to India, our motherland. The School choir sang a song in praise of God Almighty.

The program ended with a motivating speech by the chief guest. He spoke about India's natural beauty, its diversity and the factors that unite it. He described how well Indian scientists, doctors, engineers work in the global scenario. He asked the audience to unite in the fight against corruption so that India could take its rightful place in the world.

Diamonds are Forever ...

The CJM campus glittered with jubilation and delight on 18th August, 2007 when we commemorated the Golden and Diamond Jubilee of our very beloved Sr. Peter Mathew and Sr. Rita Rodriguez respectively.

Sr. Peter joined CJM in August 1954 and has worked as both Teacher and Principal in Hindi as well as English medium schools. She belongs to Kottam district of Kerala. She is a devout worshipper of Jesus Christ and loves to serve people in her best possible ways. She spends her leisurely time praying to Lord Jesus, admiring natural beauty, and going for nature walks. Her hobbies include sports like Netball and Rounders. She also loves meeting people and spending time with her friends and family. In 50 years of her life, she's touched millions of lives and has inculcated sound moral values in the young generation.

The very warm and amicable Sr. Rita joined CJM Dehra Dun as a retired sister at the age of 84. She dedicated herself to the service of humanity in the year 1904. She drew her inspiration from her mother whose intense devotion and piety greatly influenced her. She also imbibed strong ethical and moral principles from Fr. Peter Perriera, a very fervent priest. Sr. Rita is a master at tailoring. She also loves cooking, praying to Lord Jesus and decorating the altar. She finds immense joy in consecrating herself to Lord Jesus and helping other sisters of the community whenever they need her.

The CJM fraternity congratulates Sr. Peter and Sr. Rita on their achievements over the years and feels proud to see the immense service and devotion put in by them in their will to serve humanity.

Blessed Dina's Feast

On 3rd September, 2007, the School, celebrated the twelfth Feast of Blessed Dina Belanger. This auspicious occasion began with Sister Janet lighting the candle followed by the Head Girl Surabhi Jerath telling the gathering about the inspiring life of Blessed Dina.

Sister Anita addressed the students and told them that every celebration reminds us of life and every year each feast is a reminder that life is beautiful and is meant to be celebrated. Few great people like Blessed Dina surrendered their lives to God completely and it is our duty to make such lives our inspiration. She concluded by saying that religion is immaterial and as individuals we must work righteously in order to benefit others.

The hymn, "O sing to the chief musician", brought the auspicious occasion to an end and left everyone spiritually renewed.

Stars that Shine

“Those who have taught many people to do what is right, will shine like stars forever”.

This year Teacher's Day had the most twinkling theme 'TEACHERS… STARS THAT SHINE”, and indeed they shine, shine and will always shine. The morning prayer service comprised the most meaningful and beautiful intentions, asking God to bless our treasured teachers. This was followed by the giving out of bouquets and cards.

The surprise for the day was finally unveiled. The movie presented by Mr. Vijay Das, called 'Little Box of Sweets” was shown..

Teachers' Day indeed proved to be the day when we learnt a lot, not just from the movie that we saw, but also through our mistakes. Organising the Teachers' day was a task that needed careful review. We learnt the valuable lesson of doing things in perfect manner and taking every small thing at hand into consideration.

Techno Clippits

Techno Clippits means the skill and talent used in the preparation of Power Point slides. That this kind of competition would be held at an inter CJM level was really exciting. The competition was held on the 6th September. CJM, Waverly, St. Agnes, St. Lawrenece including C J M Dehra Dun participated in the competition. All the schools were well prepared, skilled and equally competitive. The conflict lasted 90 minutes.

C J M Dehra Dun was the winner of Techno Clippits with 75 marks, followed CJM Waverley with 70 marks. Although we had won but being the host school the prize went to CJM Waverly, the first runners up.

Sports Day

Seventh November 2007 was the 'D' Day when every CJmite pest in her best to make the event a success. The Chief Guest Col N Rathore was universally pleased by March past and enthusiasm of C J M girls.

Childrens' Day

On 14 November, 2007, sunshine warmed the hearts of all at CJMites. All the CJMites draped in bright colorful attire with sparkling eyes and exuberant spirits anticipated what surprises our dear teachers had planned over the days of trials. The programme had a solemn beginning with a beautifully conducted prayer service followed by a cheerfully sung fusion of peppy tracks by the teachers. A remarkable duet performance of Ms Bhattacharya and Mr Aggarwal received a massive applause. But the fashion show turned out to be the eye-candy as seen in recurrent shrieks and cheers of the girls in wonder, seeing the model teachers walk the ramp.

The Teachers v/s 12thies Antakshari was interesting as well. But that was not the end of it, a DJ and a mini fete also awaited us later in the day.

All members of the CJM family became a part of the special ceremony on 5th February 2008. The auspicious occasion began with the lighting by all the sisters followed by the song "Dhanya-Dhanya Claudine Thevenet" by the choir.

Then the inter-faith prayer service for universal brotherhood & peace among people of all religious, caste and creed had excerpts from the holy bible in the form of various intentions.
